ASSISTANT PLANT MANAGER

As the Assistant Plant Manager you will be working alongside the Regional Plant Manager and Operations Director to ensure the efficient and effective running of the operational anaerobic digestion plant trading as Nomansland Biogas Limited. Competitive Salary.

Key Accountabilities:
Working as part of a shift pattern, the main responsibilities include:
• Carrying out day to day operations of the renewable energy process plant
• Document and report all onsite activities, including monitoring and reporting on KPIs
• Using SCADA control systems to monitor the process
• Carrying out planned & reactive maintenance of the plant which will include working on pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, pipework etc.
• Responding to machine and systems failures
• Ensuring adherence with health & safety at all times
• Ensuring all relevant legislation is complied with and that all operating permits and documentation (RAMS etc) are in place
• Other duties as required
Experience and Qualifications needed:
• Hold a relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering (such as an apprenticeship / City & Guilds / NVQ / HNC / HND etc.)
• Experience carrying out maintenance on process plant such as pumps & conveyors
• Previous supervisory/managerial experience is essential.   An appropriate qualification or equivalent experience of working on an similar operational site – WAMITAB would be desirable.
• Knowledge of SCADA control system and previous experience remotely monitoring is desirable
• A full UK Driving licence is essential as you will be covering two plants
• Excellent IT skills are essential – completing spreadsheets and reports.  Good numerical, analytical and diagnostic skills
• Telehandler and/or experience of driving tractors – or operating other plant machinery.
• Demonstrate a hands on approach when dealing with maintenance issues.
• Good staff and contractor management skills
• Ability to manage all Health and safety processes and procedures including the production and implementation of risk assessments, work methods.  To assist the Regional Plant Manager in their responsibility for each Plant’s health and safety.
• Proven ability to work to timelines and good time management skills
• A positive, proactive and dedicated approach with good flexibility
• Ability to interpret data to maximise output and solve process issues
• Attention to detail and a practical can do attitude.  Good team player with excellent communication skills
• Ability to work co-operatively and in collaboration with other stakeholders, partners and colleagues
• Resilience and drive and the ability to work under own initiative and out-of-hours
• Ability to plan and prioritise complex and varied tasks.
Role description:
• This leadership role comes with its own specific responsibilities separate from the Regional Plant Manager role – prioritising optimum & efficient running of the AD plant/business.
• High-level operations of the AD Plant and all the planning and compliance that this requires.
• The role requires a global view of the business from operational Issues, capital projects, health and safety, maintenance provisions and the organisation and overseeing of the Maintenance Store.
• Compliance is an important part of this role as we are in a highly regulated industry and the consequences of any breach can have a very negative impact on the business.
• A significant amount of data is collected throughout the AD processes. The role will require that this data is timely and accurate and then analysed and reported correctly.
• A clear commercial understanding of an AD business is critical for success in the position.
• The line management of the on-site operations and maintenance team will be the responsibility of the Assistant Plant Manager in terms of training requirements, welfare and any disciplinary issues.
• Ensuring the efficient operation of the plant to maximise energy production ensuring KPI’s are met on the plant. Reporting on KPIs in the absence of the Regional Plant Manager.
• Monitoring and maintaining IT control systems and producing required reports.  This will include remote monitoring
• Ensuring accurate recording of all feedstock deliveries into the plant
• Assisting the Regional Plant Manager in overseeing all maintenance to be carried out on site.  Pro-actively monitoring and coordinating all aspects of plant and buildings maintenance
• Manage site cleanliness and responsibility for maintaining excellent housekeeping on the plant and the offices located thereon.
• In conjunction with the  Regional Plant Manager, the Assistant Manager will have responsibility for all elements of health and safety.  Undertaking plant and site safety inspections to ensure a safe working environment at all times.  Ensuring that all existing Health and Safety policies are enforced through a collaborative and educational manner.  Assisting the H & S Compliance Manager in the training of all Plant Operators and new employees to ensure that they have a full understanding of the requirements.
• To undertake the line management and development of plant operators to deliver the effective processing and output with the operations.  Ensure staffing levels are controlled (with a rota implemented) and performance levels are kept to a high standard.
• Leading effective controls and improvements when failures or opportunities are identified
• Completing risk assessments, guidance and training as required
• Carrying out all Near Miss investigations ensuring causes are identified and suitable processes put in place to ensure a safe working environment
• Ownership of the plant maintenance systems and stores management. Ensuring accurate and up to date stock registers are held on the plants.  Oversee the stock control system working with the Stock Controller.
• Responsibility for the implementation and monitoring of all permit requirements.
• Maintain site fire systems and checks in collaboration with the  Regional Plant Manager and Maintenance team.
• Engagement and liaison with the local community and external regulatory bodies such as the Environment Agency and local Councils, where required.
• Working alongside plant operators to ensure plant uptime and and efficiency are well maintained
• Maintaining a working knowledge of current industry best practice and regulation.
• Management of all aspects of site preventative and reactive maintenance working closely with the Regional Maintenance Manager and the Regional Plant Manager and Operators.  Oversee all maintenance paperwork to ensure that records are kept up to date, accurate and produced in a timely manner.
• Stocktaking of spares and equipment.  Ensuring all items are catalogued and accounted for.  Timely ordering of replacement spares to ensure minimum downtime.
• Keeping up to date with all new relevant Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance
• Manage the production and implementation of standard operating procedures.
• Maintaining good liaison with colleagues, residents and other stakeholders – good communication skills essential.
• Support training programs when required to facilitate knowledge sharing for plant and operations
