The 2020s is already proving a decade of turmoil.  It started with the Covid pandemic, then towards the end of 2021 we had the shock of dramatically rising gas prices. What has this to do with your local energy firm Ixora and the green energy movement which we are a part of?  A lot (and it’s a lot more positive than other current affairs)!

Many countries have suddenly realised that the past decades of plentiful energy may well be coming to an abrupt end. We know fossil fuels are heating our planet, and now we also see energy being used as a foreign policy weapon, with certain messages being: “support us and you can have our gas, criticise us and we will cut the supply”.

The good news is that the more green energy Britain produces, the less we have to worry about the impact of energy threats – not to mention problems elsewhere in the world that impacts energy supplies, such as the Gulf and Suez Canal.

In fact, the more of our energy that Britain produces, the securer our supplies are. Renewable energy now consistently generates at least 35% of Britain’s electricity. But more is needed, as 65% still comes from unsustainable fossil fuels – mainly natural gas.

Anaerobic digestion (AD) plants such as Ixora’s are playing a key part in helping all communities get as much power as possible from clean local energy. Our plants use friendly bacteria to turn food waste and farmyard animal excrement into electricity, gas and high-quality fertiliser. This means that   all the energy Ixora produces is done so in Britain – and it’s fully traceable.

Currently, we are powering over 9,300 homes with gas and nearly 13,000 with electricity from our six plants across the South West and East of England via 100% UK-produced feedstock sources. In doing this, we are not only reducing Britain’s reliance on imported energy, but we are also ensuring all finances remain in Britain.

Given the energy security our plants provide, not to mention the benefits to the environment of having green power rather than fossil fuels, we are pretty sure that more and more local communities will be demanding their own AD facility so they too can have secure green energy… no matter how turbulent the rest of the decade proves.

Are you looking to find out more about AD, whether to help you reach net zero or to better dispose of the waste you generate?  We can help; we offer a suite of services from consultancy at project feasibility, all the way through to taking full responsibility for project delivery and operation.  Simply contact us for more information.
